Job summary

United Hospital Center is seeking an OR Scrub Nurse or Surgical Technologist to join the outpatient surgery team in Bridgeport, WV. The role provides intraoperative care by assisting the surgical team and maintaining a sterile field.

The position requires either LPN licensure with two years of scrub experience or completion of a Surgical Technology Program with certification, plus BLS within 30 days of hire. Strong teamwork and attention to safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse AND two (2) years of previous scrub experience.
• Completion of a Surgical Technology Program AND surgical technologist certification.
• Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR.
• Assists the circulating RN in maintaining a sterile field.
• Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
• Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
• Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
• Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients and with retractor placement as directed by the surgeon.
• Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedures following preference cards.
• Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
• Monitors inventory, orders, and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses per guidelines.
• Assists with general cleaning duties of the department.
• Performs equipment checks as assigned.
• Assists with proper recording of patient charges.
• Call with a response time of 30 minutes.
• Serves as a mentor to the team and supports development of level one technologists.
