Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in operative settings and provide expert services in at least one specialty area. The role includes precepting staff and students and ensuring equipment readiness and patient safety.

Responsibilities include assisting during procedures under surgeon supervision, preparing cases per preference cards, and maintaining aseptic technique while supporting a multidisciplinary team and ongoing education activities.

Qualifications

• Must be competent in case procedure preparation and completion in all services.
• Expert in at least one specialty surgical service.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates sequential needs of the surgeon/physician during the procedure.
• Assists with case preparation following preference card guidelines.
• Precepts staff and students and collaborates on orientation.
• Ensures compliance with department policies, safety standards and regulations.
• Maintains aseptic techniques and monitors breaches in aseptic technique.
• Assists in planning and maintenance of equipment in the specialty area.
• Acts as assistant during procedures under direct supervision of surgeon/physician.
• Handles specimens appropriately.
• Participates in in-service trainings and unit-based committees.
• Provides indirect patient care and supports patient comfort and privacy.
