Job summary

MedStar Health in Baltimore is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist with procedures and provide expert support in at least one specialty area. You will precept staff and students, ensure proper equipment function, and maintain aseptic techniques under surgeon supervision.

Required are a high school diploma or GED and graduation from a surgical technology program, with 1–2 years of experience and CPR/BLS/NRP credentials. Certification in CST is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduation from a surgical technology program required.
• One year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience.
• 1-2 years Surgical technologist experience required.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates sequential needs of the surgeon/physician during procedures.
• Assists with case preparation following preference card guidelines.
• Precepts staff and students; participates in orientation.
• Ensures equipment functions properly and troubleshoots in the specialty area.
• Acts as a technical resource on instruments/equipment and maintains equipment.
• Performs assistant duties during procedures under direct surgeon supervision.
• Maintains aseptic technique and adherence to safety standards.
• Participates in meetings, committees and quality improvement efforts.
• Provides indirect patient care such as transportation and supports patient comfort.
