Job summary

MedStar Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist with operative procedures and provide expert support in at least one specialty area. The role includes precepting staff and students, ensuring equipment readiness, and maintaining aseptic technique.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduation from a school of surgical technology or hospital-based program required.
• One year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates sequential needs of the surgeon during the procedure.
• Assists with case preparation following preference card guidelines.
• Precepts staff and students and collaborates on competency-based orientation.
• Adheres to department policies, quality and safety standards; complies with regulations.
• Ensures equipment functions properly and troubleshoots issues; informs appropriate personnel.
• Provides information on instruments and equipment and supports planning/maintenance within specialty area.
• Acts as an assistant during procedures under direct surgeon supervision.
• Identifies and handles specimens appropriately.
• May provide one in-service per year in related specialty area.
• Maintains aseptic technique and monitors breaches in asepsis.
