Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to join the Operating Room team in Washington, DC. You will support surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative nursing, functioning across most procedures and applying intermediate surgical knowledge in critical situations.

As an experienced CST, you will demonstrate advanced critical-thinking, maintain sterile technique, and anticipate team needs. This full-time role offers structured shifts in a renowned academic medical center.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current NBSTSA CST certification required; CSFA certification accepted as alternative.
• Minimum two years of CST work experience.

Responsibilities

• Review preference cards and ensure supplies, equipment, and personnel are ready for each procedure.
• Perform preoperative duties including PPE, surgical scrub, gowning/gloving, setup of sterile back table and Mayo stand.
• Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulating nurse; maintain sterile field.
• Assist with intraoperative counts, room turnover, and specimen handling as appropriate.
