Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to join the Operating Room team. You will support surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative nursing, delivering sterile, patient-centered care across a range of procedures.

The role requires CST certification, at least two years of experience, and proficiency in sterile technique, instrument handling, and intraoperative support. This is a full-time position with a rotating schedule and on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program.
• Current CST certification (NBSTSA) required; CSFA accepted.
• Minimum two years of work experience as a CST.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology relevant to surgical patient care.
• Expertise in sterile and aseptic technique.
• Ability to operate surgical equipment and anticipate procedural needs.

Responsibilities

• Review preference cards and ensure supplies are ready in the room.
• Perform preoperative duties: PPE, scrub, gowning, setup.
• Maintain sterile field and assist with gowning/gloving.
• Assist with intraoperative instrument counts and troubleshooting.
• Prepare dressings and pass off specimens; assist with room turnover.
• Operate equipment and anticipate procedural needs during surgery.
