Job summary

BayCare in New Port Richey, FL is seeking a Surgical Technologist First Assistant (CSFA) for PRN shifts. The role supports the surgeon, assists in patient positioning, prepping, draping, tissue retraction, and intraoperative tasks.

On-call availability and evening/night coverage are expected. Requirements include a CSFA certificate, BLS, at least 3 years as a Surgical Tech and 1 year as a Surgical First Assistant, plus a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years’ Surgical Tech experience and 1 year as Surgical First Assistant.
• High School diploma or equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate.
• BLS certification and CSFA certification required.
• Strong teamwork, critical thinking and medical terminology skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon during procedures and communicate preferences to the team.
• Position, prep, and drape patients; provide tissue retraction and assist with incisions.
• Select equipment and assist with hemostasis and closure.

Description

Position Description:Surgical Technologist First Assistant

• Responsible for assisting the surgeon during surgery and plays a vital role in the operating room during surgeries. Communicates the surgeon’s preferences and specific patient needs to surgical team. Assists in positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Provides retraction of tissues and organs for optimal visualization with regard to the surgical site. Assists with selecting equipment, holding incisions open, controlling bleeding, closing incisions and performing other technical duties.

Status: PRN, Exempt: No

Shift Hours: mostly evening & overnight call cov

On Call: Yes

Requirements:

• Required Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Tech and 1-year Surgical First Assistant experience.
• Required Education: High School or Equivalent and Surgical Technology First Assist Certificate
• Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross and Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) Certification.
