Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks a Surgical Technologist to facilitate safe and efficient surgical procedures in the Main OR. Responsibilities include preparing the operating room, handing instruments, assisting with patient positioning and draping, and maintaining instrument counts throughout procedures.

Licensure/certification: BLS preferred. Education: high school equivalency with a surgical technologist program, or 4 years of related experience; associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma equivalency and completion of a surgical technologist program with clinical component OR 4 years of cumulative job-specific experience.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments and monitor instrument counts during procedures.
• Assist with hemostasis during surgery.
