Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures in the Main OR. This full-time day shift position includes a required call and a work location at UAB St Vincent's Birmingham.

Responsibilities include preparing operating suites with sterile equipment, passing instruments to surgeons, assisting with patient positioning and draping, maintaining instrument counts, and supporting hemostasis during operations.

Qualifications

• Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS Provider preferred.
• High school diploma equivalency and completion of a surgical technologist program with clinical component.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year neuro or cardiac experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instrument counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons with hemostasis during surgery.
