Job summary

Indiana University Health System's Riley Hospital for Children seeks a Surgical Technologist to support pre-, intra-, and post-operative care in a pediatric operating room with 16 ORs across multiple specialties. The role is a day shift, Monday–Friday, with on-call required.

Part and full-time positions offer a $30,000 sign-on bonus. You will work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and staff to ensure proper sterile technique and efficient turnover of the OR after procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist within four months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Minimum of one year CVOR experience.
  • Pediatric experience preferred.
  • Ability to resource advanced technology.
  • 15 CEUs annually as per state law.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures to anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Strict adherence to sterile field policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring presence and arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation pre-operation.
  • Assist the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by standards.
  • Support turnover of the operating room after procedures, including specimen, equipment, and supply processing.
  • Work as part of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other staff.

This position is a day shift role working Monday-Friday.On-call required.

Part and Full-time roles are eligible for a $30,000 sign-on bonus.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Requires a minimum of one year of CVOR experience.
  • Preferred experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.
  • Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
  • Requires knowledge of the name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of the sterile field.
