Job summary

Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis is seeking a Surgical Skilled Technologist to join our operating room team. You will help prepare and arrange instruments and supplies, and assist the surgeon in the OR to help ensure patient safety.

Join a collaborative team at a premier pediatric Level I trauma hospital with 4x10 hour day shifts 7:00am–5:00pm. NBSTSA CST certification within 4 months and BLS are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA CST) within four months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of various surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in ensuring presence and arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies.
  • Support the surgeon in the operating room as permitted by standards.
  • Contribute to turnover and proper routing of specimens and instruments.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs and other surgical staff.

Overview

Join our esteemed team at Riley Hospital for Children, boasting 16 cutting-edge operating rooms (ORs) catering to a diverse array of specialties such as General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Ear, Nose, and Throat, Cardiovascular, and Neurosurgery. We are on the lookout for passionate individuals who are committed to excellence in patient care, to become part of our collaborative workforce at one of Indiana's premier Level I pediatric trauma hospitals.

This is a full time day shift role working 4 10's, 7:00am-5:00pm. Holidays and call required.

Surgical Skilled Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

Requires a High School Diploma/GED.

  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.
  • Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
  • Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
