Job summary

Virginia Urology is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to coordinate tests, diagnostics and surgical procedures for patients, ensuring medical clearances, insurance authorizations, and billing steps are completed so procedures can be performed safely and as scheduled.

You will verify clinical information, communicate with surgical teams and hospital partners, educate patients on preparation, handle scheduling constraints, and prepare charge forms.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in patient registration or medical clerical work (1+ year).
• Strong data entry and keyboard proficiency.
• Clear, empathetic communication with patients and families.
• Understanding scheduling policies and physician constraints.
• Ability to multitask and meet scheduling deadlines.
• Good patient-relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Schedule tests, diagnostics and surgical procedures per physician orders and facility availability.
• Verify necessary medical clearances and insurance authorizations.
• Ensure complete and accurate medical information is available to the surgical team.
• Communicate surgical orders, pre-certifications, and documentation to facilities.
• Ensure timely billing and processing by third-party payers.
• Educate patients on procedures and prep requirements.
• Support patient satisfaction by minimizing delays and ensuring proper prep.
• Monitor physician schedules to anticipate workload changes.
• Prepare charge forms for hospital encounters and consults.
• Perform other duties to support clinical excellence and patient-centered care.
