Job summary

University of Maryland Faculty Physician’s Inc. at UMMC Medical Center in Baltimore is seeking a Surgical Coordinator Supervisor to lead daily surgical scheduling, supervise staff, and ensure efficient processes that boost patient satisfaction.

The role requires leadership, workflow optimization, preauthorization knowledge, and CPT/ICD-10 coding expertise. You will coordinate testing, provider calendars, and communications with patients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; minimum five years in a related medical office setting.
• Knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.
• Knowledge of IDX or similar billing systems.
• Knowledge of ICD-10/CPT coding.
• Understanding of back-office operations.
• Surgical posting/Orthopaedic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across clinical and surgical departments to ensure integrated surgical services.
• Provide ongoing training, mentoring and coaching to Surgery Schedulers.
• Advise the Service Line Manager of workflow deficiencies and propose improvements.
• Resolve daily operational issues in the surgical coordinator functions.
• Schedule patient diagnostics, surgeries or consultations and manage calendars.
• Ensure block times are maintained for surgeons and preauthorization is tracked.
• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians and staff; prepare documentation for patients.
