Job summary

OrthoIllinois is seeking a Surgical Coordination Specialist to support surgeons with comprehensive coordination of surgical and procedural activities. You will manage precertification, scheduling, appeals, and multi-department communication to ensure timely, accurate, and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years of surgery scheduling experience preferred.
• Proficient in ECW, HST, Availity, CPT and ICD-10 coding.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgeries and procedures across ASC, clinic, and hospital settings.
• Perform precertification and prior authorizations for surgeries and procedures via payer portals.
• Prepare and submit appeals for denied cases with medical necessity documentation.
• Maintain complete and accurate EMR documentation including authorization status and case details.
• Monitor financial clearance and collaborate with VOB teams to resolve issues.
• Communicate detailed pre-op and procedural instructions to patients and assist with scheduling labs and post-op appointments.
• Maintain and monitor surgeon schedules and communicate updates to all stakeholders.
• Implement best practices such as code-matching accuracy and payer policy monitoring to reduce delays.
• Ensure timely submission and processing of authorizations within required timeframes.
• Oversee scheduling accuracy, including coding verification and facility requirements.
