Job summary

UPMC Mercy is seeking a full-time Surgery Scheduler to support our surgical services team. This daylight position involves coordinating and scheduling patients for in-house and outpatient surgeries, with no holiday, travel, or on-call requirements, and occasional weekend coverage as needed.

Responsibilities include coordinating cases with hospital staff, obtaining pre-approval, and ensuring accurate demographics and insurance details.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a medical assisting program or 2-4 years experience in a medical field preferred.
• Proficiency in medical terminology preferred.
• Knowledge of Epic practice management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate surgical procedures for in-patients and outpatients.
• Schedule pre-op and post-op appointments and related testing.
• Coordinate cases with surgeons and hospital staff for admissions.
• Handle pre-certifications, referrals, and insurance information.
• Communicate scheduling details and patient education to patients and teams.
• Assist with data collection for research or quality improvement.
• Ensure accuracy of demographics, insurance and billing information.
