Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery is seeking an experienced Development Engineering Manager to lead a team supporting the OTTAVA Surgical Robotics platform. You will drive product development, design transfer, and supplier collaboration to deliver manufacturable, cost-effective medical devices.

Qualifications

• Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional work experience.
• Experience in product development, development engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical functions within a regulated environment.
• Experience managing, coaching, or leading engineers and technical teams.
• Knowledge of NPD/NPI, design transfer, manufacturing readiness, and regulated product development processes.
• Experience with DFM/DFA, design-to-cost, manufacturability reviews, supplier collaboration and process development.
• Experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical, or complex medical device components and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, statistics, PFMEA, and design controls.
• Exposure to medical device quality systems and regulatory standards.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally; on-site work.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Development Engineers through coaching and performance management.
• Build technical capability and align priorities with business objectives.
• Lead execution for NPD/NPI programs including design transfer and manufacturing readiness.
• Provide technical and operational leadership through planning, design reviews, and risk assessments.
• Serve as primary Engineering partner to R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers.
• Drive cross-functional decisions balancing design, manufacturability, cost, and regulatory needs.
• Apply DFM, DFA and design-to-cost principles across development lifecycle.
• Drive manufacturing readiness and supplier alignment, ensuring timely product realization.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, design controls, risk management, and regulatory standards.
• Oversee documentation, verification/validation, and equipment qualification.
