Job summary

Johnson & Johnson RAD (Robotics and Digital) in Santa Clara is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer for surgical robotics OTTAVA. You will own design elements in the NPD/NPI pipeline and collaborate across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers to deliver robust, manufacturable medical devices.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical/electrical engineering, GD&T, 3D CAD, and experience with regulated medical device development (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/A) and optical equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Creo) and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with regulated medical device development processes (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601).
• Experience with external suppliers and PFMEA, DOE, and QA principles.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to plan, develop, qualify, and stabilize components and processes for NPD projects.
• Lead or support PFMEAs, process characterization, and control strategies in GMP environments.
• Drive design-to-cost, material optimization, and manufacturing process improvements.
• Support Design Transfer activities to enable a smooth transition into manufacturing.
• Oversee design reviews and ensure manufacturability and cost trade-offs are considered.
