Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery, Robotics and Digital seeks a Development Engineering Manager to lead a team supporting OTTAVA Surgical Robotics. You will drive NPD/NPI, design transfer, and supplier collaboration to deliver manufacturable, compliant medical devices.

The role requires strong people leadership, deep technical credibility in product development and manufacturing, and proven ability to balance cost, schedule, and quality with cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

• Minimum six (6) years of relevant professional work experience.
• Significant experience in product development, development engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related technical functions within a regulated environment.
• Experience in leading engineers, technical project teams, or cross-functional initiatives.
• Knowledge of medical device quality systems, design controls, risk management, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Development Engineers through coaching, performance management, career growth, succession planning, onboarding, and workload prioritization.
• Provide technical and operational leadership for NPD/NPI programs including component development, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes.
• Drive design transfer, supplier engagement, and manufacturing readiness to ensure robust, cost-effective medical devices.
• Serve as primary Development Engineering partner to R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and suppliers; align priorities and resources.
• Oversee engineering problem solving, risk assessments, and implementation of standards, metrics, and best practices.
• Balance design intent with manufacturability, supplier readiness, regulatory requirements, and costs in cross-functional decisions.
• Lead DFM, DFA, design-to-cost, and cost reduction initiatives across the development lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with GMP, design controls, risk management and regulatory standards throughout product lifecycle.
