Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons during operative procedures and provide perioperative nursing assessments and post-operative care. The RNFA works alongside the surgeon across departments, maintaining independent nursing duties while coordinating with OR staff.

Qualified candidates hold an RN license, CNOR, BLS, and completed RNFA training, with at least two years in perioperative nursing.

Qualifications

RN license required (IDFPR in applicable state); CNOR certification.
BLS required within 30 days of hire; AHA standards.
RNFA program certificate completed.
Perioperative nursing experience required.

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries; ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
Provide patient care and support; administer medications.
Perform surgical tasks: hemostasis, suturing, draping, tissue handling; prepare patient on operating table.
Monitor vital signs and patient status intra- and post-operatively.
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare; communicate health status.
Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for pain or complications.
Review patient history and health assessments; participate in research.
Possess ability to scrub and circulate as needed; coordinate supplies and equipment.
Aid in room turnover and department efficiency.
