Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to support operating room teams. You will prepare suites per surgeon preferences, ensure correct instruments and supplies, assist with hemostasis, and help maintain strict aseptic technique throughout procedures.

The role requires BLS certification and NBSTSA CST/CSFA or CSA credentials as applicable, with 2+ relevant experience preferred. We offer day shifts, full-time hours, and comprehensive benefits in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Ability to prepare surgical suites with instruments and supplies.
• Knowledge of instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and communicate with team.
• Strong physician/surgeon relationship skills and teamwork.
• Respect patient rights and cultural values during care.
• Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Clear communication with patients, staff, and physicians.
• Good reading/writing/speaking English.
• Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office familiarity.
• Prior first assistant experience preferred.
• Anatomy knowledge is a plus.
• General asepsis and operative technique knowledge.
• Completion of Surgical Tech program or equivalent is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Sets up operating suites according to surgeon preference cards.
• Selects appropriate surgical instruments and supplies.
• Maintains hemostasis during procedures.
• Assists with body plane closures, wound dressings, and drainage.
• Provides visualization of operative sites.
• Handles instruments during procedures and anticipates surgeon needs.
• Assists with patient positioning and comfort.
• Maintains aseptic technique and monitors the team.
• Performs instrument/sharp/sponges counts as needed.
• Participates in time-out verification and discrepancy resolution.
• Manages medications and irrigation solutions per policy.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization and transport for decontamination.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
