Job summary

The Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) seeks a Surgical First Assist to collaborate with the surgical team under physician direction, safeguarding patient safety, managing sterile field integrity, and supporting exposure, hemostasis, and closure during operations.

This role requires timely communication with the circulator, charge nurse, surgeon, and anesthesia, adherence to hospital policy, and compliance with accrediting bodies.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology First Assist Program.
• Current CPR certification; Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting is required.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for the care and safety of patients, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure.
• Maintains communication with the circulator, charge nurse, patient, surgeon, and anesthesia to ensure safe operation.
• Ensures integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field and assists in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative functions.
• Performs additional duties as directed by the Nurse Manager and complies with hospital policies and regulations.
