Job summary

VillageMD is seeking a Surgical Assistant to provide essential support in the operating room. The role emphasizes teamwork, aseptic technique, and direct assistance to the surgeon across procedures.

You will help with positioning, instrument handling, hemostasis, and wound closure while maintaining a safe, efficient environment. The ideal candidate will have a Surgical Technologist program background, BLS, and CSFA certification, with 2–4 years of tech experience.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED required.
• BLS certification required.
• Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA) certification required
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program as specified by the Oregon Health Authority

Responsibilities

• Position patient for surgery and assist with draping.
• Assist surgeon by handing instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Control bleeding using appropriate techniques and apply dressings.
• Close incisions and assist with specimen handling and irrigation.
• Maintain sterile field and monitor equipment for proper function.
• Assist with patient transfer and room turnover; ensure patient safety.
• Verify allergies, patient identity, and surgical site as per policy.

Education

Diploma from a vocational or technical school

High School Graduate or GED

Completion of a Surgical Technologist program accredited by a national accreditation organization approved by the Oregon Health Authority
