Job summary

Meritus Health in Maryland seeks a Surgical First Assistant to join the Orthopedic team. You will assist the surgeon intra‑operatively with exposure, hemostasis, wound closure, and other critical tasks, under the surgeon's guidance and nursing supervision.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, completion of a credentialed program, at least four years as a surgical technician in acute care, and current CSFA certification with BLS. Excellent teamwork and calm under pressure are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a degree or program related to licensure or certification.
• Minimum of four years as a surgical technician in an acute care setting.
• Current CSFA certification and BLS required.
• Ability to work within intra‑operative team under surgeon supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon with intraoperative tasks including exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure.
• Perform technical functions during surgery under surgeon direction.
• Support safe and efficient patient care during the intraoperative phase.
• Demonstrate competence in age-specific clinical practice.
• Maintain readiness and comply with credentialing requirements.
• Collaborate with the surgical team for a safe, sterile operative environment.
• Recognize safety hazards and initiate corrective actions.
• Perform effectively in stressful clinical situations.
