Job summary

ICON Eyecare in Denver is seeking a full-time Surgical Counselor to educate patients on upcoming surgeries and lens options, and to coordinate scheduling and pre-authorization steps.

You will work with insurance and financing discussions, collect fees, and ensure all post-op and referral communications are completed with care and accuracy. Training is offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years in a medical office setting.
• Prior Surgical Counseling experience preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and educate the patient about their upcoming surgery and lens options.
• Set surgery dates and post-surgical/treatment appointments.
• Send necessary paperwork to authorization specialist for eligibility and authorization.
• Confirm pre-certification from insurance carriers prior to procedure.
• Discuss implant options and self-pay financing options.
• Collect fees for specialty lenses and co-insurance or co-pays.
• Issue refunds for cancelled surgeries.
• Create H&Ps and send for medical or retinal clearance as needed.
• Obtain eyelid surgery authorizations and communicate with referring/owned practices.
• QA surgery charts and coordinate post-op documents.
