Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Surgical Coordinator to manage all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries within our clinical practice. You will schedule procedures, verify patient demographics, obtain precertifications, and coordinate with physicians, labs, and imaging departments.

Your role includes arranging surgical teams, ensuring pre-op documentation, and maintaining compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, GED, and/or GED equivalent programs plus two years of related experience
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills required
• The ability to learn quickly and adapt in a changing environment

Responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of tests, procedures and surgeries under supervisor/physician direction
• Schedule procedures promptly and coordinate with facility booking sheets and equipment needs
• Verify patient demographics, log insurance information, obtain precertification from payer
• Communicate appointments and preparation information to patients and coordinate with physician calendars
• Arrange co-surgeon or assistant and cross-schedule with other departments as needed
• Ensure pre-op procedures, documentation, and medical clearance are completed and communicated
• Maintain block time guidelines at each hospital and manage postoperative care coordination
• Obtain surgical billing information, work with coding to post and reconcile charges
• Track all procedures, testing, and pathology results
• Provide courteous patient service and assist patients with dignity of their surgical and financial needs
• Demonstrate cooperative interactions and adapt work schedule to practice needs
• Participate in surgical service meetings and comply with organizational standards
