Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Nursing Care Assistant II/Health Unit Coordinator for the Surgical Care Unit. You will work as a patient care partner with RN/LPN, providing direct care, assisting with procedures, and coordinating unit activities while documenting in the EMR.

Required are Level I Nurse Aide education, a high school diploma, and BCLS certification. The role demands stamina, standing, walking, lifting with help, and effective communication during shift work.

Qualifications

• Completion of Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the NC Board of Nursing.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• BCLS certification must be maintained by end of new hire orientation.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift with assistance for patient care.
• Ability to document and communicate using the EMR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance as needed.
• Record patient data for medical records and inform RN/LPN of changes.
• Administer routine and personal care, including feeding, bathing, grooming, and comfort measures.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and transportation of patients.
• Document patient care in EMR and manage nursing tasks and orders.
