Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Nursing Care Assistant II for the Surgical Care Unit. You will support RNs and LPNs with direct patient care, basic procedures, and documentation in the EMR, while ensuring patient dignity, safety, and comfort throughout shifts.

Responsibilities include preparing patients and supplies, recording data, assisting with treatments and exams, and maintaining charts.

Qualifications

• Completion of Level I Nurse Aide program approved by the NC Board of Nursing.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by end of orientation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance.
• Obtain and record patient data for medical records for RN/LPN awareness.
• Administer personal care, feeding, bathing, dressing and comfort.
• Reinforce teaching provided by RN/provider as needed.
• Assist with examinations by positioning patients and changing dressings.
• Take and record vital signs, track I&O, report condition changes.
• Perform fingersticks for glucose testing with proper training.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and patient transport.
• Collect, deliver and run routine tests; restock supplies.
• Acknowledge orders in EMR and input verified orders for care.
• Assemble and maintain patient charts from admission to discharge.
