Job summary

Duke University is seeking a Nursing Care Assistant/Health Unit Coordinator for the Inpatient Medical Oncology unit (Day Shift) at Duke Raleigh Hospital. The role supports patient care alongside the RN/LPN, helps coordinate unit activities, and documents care in the EMR.

Qualified candidates will have a Nurse Aide I credential, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work with acutely ill patients in a fast-paced hospital setting. Day shift: 7a–7p.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Level I Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected.
• Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients including feeding, bathing, hair care, changing clothing, nail care, bed-making, aiding ambulation, and more.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients; follow standard precautions.
• Perform clerical tasks in the EMR, document care, and support care coordination.
• Take vital signs, monitor I&O, and report changes to RN/LPN.
