Job summary

Bon Secours is seeking a Surgical Assistant at St. Francis Downtown. The role supports the care of patients undergoing surgical procedures under supervision, and focuses on learning and growth in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, completion of a Surgical Assistant Program, and certification such as CSA with NBSTSA/NSAA/NCCSA; BLS is preferred. Responsibilities include scrubbing, assisting in the OR, and maintaining sterile technique while

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred; must obtain before direct patient care).
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) - NBSTSA/NSAA/NCCSA (required).
• If employed in Virginia, must be registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine (required).

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving.
• Functions as first or second assist on cases and supports sterile technique.
• Maintains sterile field and assists with instrument counts and specimen handling.
