Baptist Medical Center Hospital is seeking a Surgical First Assistant to support the operating surgeon and care for patients in the OR. The role involves performing selected duties, assisting with invasive procedures, and adhering to established standards.

Eligible graduates of Surgical First Assistant programs are encouraged to apply; certification by NBSTSA/ABSA/NSAA is required within 120 days of graduation, with BLS active on hire and within 60 days of employment.

Qualifications

• MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of a Surgical First Assistant program with eligibility to earn certification through NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA within 120 days from graduation.
• MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 1 year of recent operating room experience, including direct patient contact and sterile technique.
• PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of recent operating room experience.
• REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Must be Certified Surgical Technologist. Certification as a certified first assistant through NBSTSA, ABSA or NSAA. Certification must be maintained with CE or recertification.
• REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS: Must have active healthcare provider BLS on hire; must have BLS within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assists operating surgeon in care of patient during surgery.
• Performs selected duties and provides direct/indirect technical care for surgical/obstetrical patients.
• Follows established practices and completes required competencies within introductory period.
