Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Surgical Assistant at West Hospital to support sterile technique and assist the surgical team during procedures. This entry-level role emphasizes learning under supervision while contributing to patient care in a faith-based health system.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program is required.
• CSA certification is required or with NBSTSA/NSAA/NCCSA approvals.

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving according to policy.
• Assists as first or second surgical assistant and scrub role as assigned.
• Maintains sterile technique and assists with instrument counts and specimen handling.
• Protects patient information and participates in Universal Protocol and patient safety.
• Assists with OR case preparation, positioning, and draping; supports maintaining sterile field.
• Communicates any instrument issues to circulator and surgeon; assists with drains and closures.
• Performs additional duties as required by supervisor.
