Job summary

Wayne Health is seeking a Scheduler to manage patient surgeries and related office support in a busy ambulatory setting. You will input demographic and billing data, verify insurance, and coordinate scheduling with physicians and clinics.

Responsibilities include handling initial and follow-up appointments, ensuring proper authorizations, and maintaining accurate records in the Athena system. Strong communication and organization are essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's degree in Business or related field preferred.
• 2–3 years scheduling experience in an ambulatory care/hospital setting.
• Medical office background and knowledge of medical insurances highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Secure, verify, code and input patient demographic, insurance, clinic fee and hospital service charge information for billing and records.
• Answer phones and schedule initial and follow-up visits.
• Schedule/reschedule procedures inside and outside requests.
• Know the time required for procedures and when they cannot be scheduled.
• Schedule all patients for procedures within departmental guidelines.
• Review patient preparation instructions and ensure understanding and location details.
• Notify outside offices of procedure dates and fax necessary information for authorization.
• Document all scheduled procedures with arrivals, no-shows, cancellations, and reschedules in Athena.
• Obtain and document authorizations for procedures and insurances in Athena.
• Schedule emergency cases as requested by physicians or hospital discharges.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
