Job summary

The US Oncology Network's Texas Breast Specialists in Austin Midtown is seeking a Surgery Support Coordinator for a full-time, Monday–Friday 8:30am–5pm position with no weekends or major holidays.

This role focuses on internal surgery scheduling, pre-operative coordination, patient communication, and charting in our EMR. The successful candidate will have a High School diploma, 0–2 years surgical office experience, knowledge of medical terminology, and strong MS Office skills.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0-2 years of Surgical practice/office work experience including work in insurance authorization, insurance verification and/or scheduling.
  • Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to multitask.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
  • Review with patient, their medications and health history; may impact surgical clearance.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and authorize pre-operative clearance testing and any diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, US, X-Ray).
  • Scan any surgery documents into EMR as applicable (e.g. signed surgery orders, consents, etc.).
  • Serve as a patient advocate and liaison between the patient, payor, office and facility to answer questions.
  • Ensure reports (Pathology, OR) are captured in chart.
  • Surgical pathology reports are in chart; obtain missing Pathology reports.
  • Schedule any needed appointments not already scheduled with physician clinic scheduler as appropriate.
  • Sequence, prioritize, follow up, and multi-task with multiple provider inputs.
