Job summary

Hmutx in Sugar Land is seeking a Surgery Scheduler to assist Houston Metro Urology patients with treatment scheduling, pre-op preparation, and coordination with facilities. The role emphasizes accuracy in populating physician schedules, coordinating clearances, labs, and patient education.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in a medical clinic, surgical scheduling experience, and strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years work experience in a medical clinic setting, preferably in a surgical practice.
• Surgery scheduling experience required.
• Basic knowledge of insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid.
• Ability to enter patient demographic and insurance information quickly but accurately.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent organization skills to maintain multiple physician schedules with area facilities.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, coordinates and reschedules accurately and timely all procedures and surgeries.
• Coordinate medical and cardiac clearances, labs, and ancillary testing.
• Verify insurance benefits and calculate patient responsibility.
• Obtain pre-certification/prior authorization from insurance companies.
• Provide procedure and surgery information, pre-op instructions and financial counseling.
• Obtain payment for patient co-pays, deductibles and/or co-insurances.
• Document information in patient medical records for tracking purposes.
• Review schedules two days prior and check for errors and ensure patient instructions.
• Ensure clearances and tests are received and scanned before procedures.
• Enter updates, cancellations, or add-ons accurately.
• Communicate with physicians and staff about patient concerns related to scheduling.
• Answer and return calls within 24 hours.
• Provide highest level of customer service to patients.
• Provide coverage to other areas as needed and perform duties assigned by the practice manager.
