Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a medical assisting program or 2-4 years in a medical field.
• Proficiency in medical terminology preferred.
• General knowledge of computer software and practice management databases is essential.
• Knowledge of Epic practice management programs preferred.
• Strong organization, time management and interpersonal skills.
• Tact and diplomacy when dealing with physicians, patients and staff.
• Ability to work independently with sound decision-making.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations for scheduling and approvals.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot procedural and operations issues with department.
• Coordinate and monitor patient follow-up and intake in EPIC.
• Prepare admission reservations with demographics and insurance details.
• Coordinate cases and obtain hospital admission approvals.
• Discuss financial arrangements prior to surgery, including pre-payments.
• Ensure informed consents are signed.
• Provide pre/postoperative instruction per guidelines.
• Coordinate patient education seminars and schedule physicians accordingly.
• Collect data for research studies.
• Schedule pre-screening, testing, postoperative appointments, and surgical cases.
• Ensure billing and insurance information is current and accurate.
• Complete special projects and act as liaison between patient and physicians.
• Obtain pre-certification/referrals prior to procedures.
• Coordinate internal and external marketing efforts.
• Attend and schedule department meetings.
• Answer inquiries about surgery and provide educational materials.
