Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Scheduling Specialist to coordinate patient scheduling for department and clinic operations. The role is Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, with a hybrid arrangement after six months in the office.

The position emphasizes accurate data entry, pre-certification, and collaboration with surgeons, billing teams, and departments to ensure efficient patient flow and compliant scheduling practices.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a medical office environment.
• Exposure to physician billing, medical collections, coding and surgery scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Schedule patient surgical procedures across departments and centers.
• Obtain pre-certifications to ensure coverage and proper billing.
• Enter scheduling, registration and insurance data accurately.
• Manage surgical block time and coordinate with surgeons to optimize utilization.
• Coordinate with Tissue Bank/Transplant Services for tissue delivery.
• Communicate with insurance carriers regarding pre-certification and patient cost responsibilities.
• Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality policies.
• Support other staff for coordination of multiple procedures.
