Job summary

NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD seeks a Surface Ship Production Manager to lead the Weld Shop and Production Resources Department. You will direct both supervisory and non-supervisory personnel, ensuring adherence to established practices and performance standards for conversion, overhaul, or repair of surface ships.

The role requires coordinating with Shipyard management and technical staff, managing resources, and driving efficiency while maintaining safety and compliance with DoD requirements.

Qualifications

• Specialized experience establishing practices and policies for Code 926 welding shop.
• Experience applying knowledge of surface ship platforms.
• Experience applying knowledge of scientific management, production controls, cost controls, and budget control.
• Experience applying production operations, processes, and procedures.
• Ability to analyze complex, interrelated jobs and recommend work breakdown.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Direct and assure the success of supervisory and non-supervisory personnel in compliance with established practices and policies.
• Determine short and long term resources needs.
• Ensure compliance with work standards for the surface ship platform.
• Develop performance standards and evaluate subordinate managers.
• Identify training needs and implement actions to eliminate bottlenecks.
• Interface with Shipyard management, department heads, and senior staff.
