Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking an experienced inventory and purchasing leader to oversee procurement and materials management across multiple manufacturing sites in Frederick, MD.

The role emphasizes maintaining optimal inventory levels, driving turns, and leading a supervisory team while collaborating with program managers to ensure on-time shipments. Strong Excel/Access skills and contract manufacturing experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of directly related experience in contract manufacturing industry.
• Must have prior supervisory experience & strong people management skills.
• Must have significant experience with inventory control, logistics, materials requirement planning, supply chains, contract negotiations, and purchasing.
• High level of comfort with supply chain and inventory management systems.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiating skills.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a deep understanding of forecasting and budgeting.
• Extreme proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access required.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coach a team comprising Buyers, Engineering Production Services, Quoting Specialist and Proposal Administrator.
• Develop team with goals/metrics and track progress, focusing on professional development.
• Maintain inventory levels to ensure on-time production while minimizing on-hand inventory.
• Continually drive for increased inventory turns.
• Explore new suppliers and processes to achieve quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
• Provide management with data/metrics to drive continuous improvement and decision making.
• Stay current on industry trends and notify relevant team members of potential issues/changes.
• Manage the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP).
• Manage supplier relationships, lead negotiations, and track quality, price and delivery metrics.
• Modify processes for shipping, receiving, transport, and inventory control to reduce waste and increase throughput.
• Interface with Program Managers on planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
• Ensure company procedures are followed for all materials and department functions.
• Other duties as assigned.
