Mission
The Supplier Quality Engineer/Lab Manager will be the technical liaison between the quality department, product engineering, manufacturing, program management, purchasing and our supply base. In this role, the Supplier Quality Engineer will work with the suppliers to resolve supplier-manufacturing issues; implement and monitor advanced quality-planning systems, and provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of a particular commodity. In addition the role of Lab Manager will be to ensure all gauges are meeting calibration requirements, and the Lab meets budget and supports the Shelby site.
Responsibilities
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems
- Determine root cause of supplier manufacturing problems and implementing timely, effective, and efficient quality resolutions
- Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required
- Ensure the supplier follows the supplier development and advanced quality planning process through periodic detailed reviews with supplier program and plant management
- Solve process and design problems with suppliers during development / pre-launch using effective problem-solving techniques
- Manage supplier part approval (PPAP) to completion – initially and with every engineering change
- Work with given Problem/Focus Suppliers to improve quality performance and verify the effectiveness of the actions
- “Crisis” Supplier Management through on-site involvement, effective communication & collaborative and method-based problem solving
- Drives continuous improvements for the betterment of the department and plant.
- Implement, maintain and sustain 5S and world class standards.
- Abides by all health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations promoting safety in the workplace.
- Ensures all employees receive the proper training and certification for the position they hold.
- Develop, implement, and maintain lab and quality systems operation budget for multiple cost centers, in collaboration with finance and leadership.
- Ensure on-time first-time calibration of all devices across all programs within the organization.
- Manage lab personnel by providing personal development opportunities and motivation through training and the application of the standard procedures of the company.
- Investigate new technologies that can be applied to increase lab capability and productivity.
- Responsible for the development of competencies of the lab staff.
- Conduct timely performance appraisals for direct reports.
- Support internal and external auditing efforts.
- Implement, maintain, and sustain 5S and world class standards.
- Abide by all health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations promoting safety in the workplace.
- Manage sorting of supplier issues (including transportation providers) on DT and DS programs with Shelby, supplier, and 3rd party to ensure Shelby production lines have 100% uptime.
- Supplier Incident Management (including transportation providers) utilizing SAP for all DT and DS program supplier incidents.
- Work with Materials team to ensure Incoming Schedule is being maintained and followed to ensure all active part numbers are inspected on an annual basis for DT and DS programs.
- Manage supplier change with customer using customer portal to ensure 100% compliance with customer requirements.
What we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred or minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in the field.
- 1 to 3 years of previous SQE experience managing high volumes of suppliers.
- Professional and effective communication and representation skills.
- Ability to sit, stand and have mobility to move around the office or manufacturing environment, when needed.
- Ability to conduct extended computer work and lead discussions with employees.
- Customer specific experience, and is familiar with customer specific Portal and use of their
- document and systems.
- Must be very organized and detail oriented with an emphasis on accuracy.
- Ability to physically inspect areas of responsibility including the interior plant floor (shipping,
receiving, finished goods warehouses, service area, etc.….) and any exterior shipping / receiving docks and any outside storage areas, warehouses, and trailers.
- Ability to lift, move and manipulate parts required.
- May require domestic and international travel
