Overview

Job Summary

Responsible for the direct provision of patient care and for assisting the manager with daily operations, including coordination of patient care/outcomes, resource allocation, communication, patient throughput, program development and oversight, rounding with patients, physicians, and staff, staff recruitment and development, clinical supervision, performance appraisals, quality improvement, service recovery, and regulatory compliance. Maintains clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population.

Essential Functions

• Supports the manager in enhancing nursing practice, service administration, and care delivery
• Assists with interviewing, hiring, and supervising nursing staff
• Facilitates communication through staff meetings and huddles
• Ensures understanding and compliance with healthcare laws, regulations, and policies
• Rounds on patients, staff, and physicians to assess satisfaction and care quality
• Delegates care appropriately according to legal and policy guidelines
• Assists in setting and evaluating patient care outcomes and department goals
• Performs nursing care, assists with treatments, therapies, procedures, and medication administration
• Manages patient flow and staffing based on ongoing assessment of needs

Physical Requirements

Work involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting (up to 35 pounds), reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must speak and understand English fluently. Good vision, hearing, touch, finger dexterity, critical thinking, and concentration are required.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Current RN licensure. Minimum two years nursing experience preferred. Management experience preferred. BSN required. RNs without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year of hire and complete it within 3 years. BLS certification required. Professional certification within 1 year of eligibility is recommended. Additional qualifications may be specified by the department.
