Job Summary

The Nurse Aide/Healthcare Technician assists in providing patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. They help maintain a clean, safe environment and perform responsibilities safely. They maintain clinical and professional competencies as appropriate to the patient population served.

Essential Functions

  • Support patients/residents with activities of daily living.
  • Assist with personal hygiene.
  • Take vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
  • Feed and ambulate patients/residents as per procedures.
  • Maintain patient/resident rooms in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Observe and report changes in patient/resident conditions.
  • Orient patients/families to the unit and instruct on safety measures.
  • Assist with clerical tasks like answering phones, data entry, and maintaining medical records.
  • Manage stock supplies.
  • Perform duties as outlined for Nurse Aide I or II per North Carolina regulations.
  • Perform technical tasks like ECG testing and routine venipuncture with proper training.

Physical Requirements

Work involves walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must lift up to 35 pounds. Must speak and understand English well. Requires manual dexterity. Physical abilities testing is required.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current listing with the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry or Board of Nursing.
  • BLS certification required.

Knowledge of growth and development principles and skills appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and needs of patients.

  • Limit access to PHI to what is necessary for the job.
  • Share information only on a need-to-know basis.
  • Access to PHI is controlled via user ID and password.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment

Includes blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, thermometers, PPE, wheelchairs, stretchers, and related clinical equipment.
