This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team in the following role.
The Integrated Systems of Care Division is searching for a Waiver Personal Care Services (WPCS) Unit Chief. WPCS provides additional in-home caregiving hours beyond In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) to help medically fragile Home and Community-Based Alternatives (HCBA) Waiver members remain safely in their homes and communities. The Unit Chief manages day-to-day operations, including service authorizations, payroll, provider enrollment, and running the WPCS Hotline. The position involves planning, organizing, and directing assignments, as well as developing policies and procedures for WPCS statewide. The Unit Chief works with other external agencies and stakeholders, provides technical assistance to members and providers, and helps solve health policy and access issues. This job requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to ensure the programs run smoothly and meet the needs of Californians.
This classification was previously known as a Staff Services Manager I classification and is now referred to as the Supervisor I classification, effective January 1, 2026.
This position is subject to the Department's Conflict of Interest Code and filing a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) when assuming office, annually while in office, and upon leaving office.
Results from the Supervisor I Bulletin (EX4796) or the Supervisor I (LEAP) (EXAM 4797 ) examination currently in progress and will be utilized for filling this/these position(s).

Telework: This position is currently eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change consistent with DHCS’ Telework Program and Government Code sections 14200 – 14203.
