Job summary

Haugland Group seeks an experienced Electrical Substation Superintendent to join our New England region. The role focuses on leadership of site teams, coordination of multi-discipline activities, and ensuring project milestones are met through disciplined scheduling and proactive subcontractor management.

The candidate will oversee high-voltage substation construction, engage with utility representatives, and drive safety, quality, and efficiency across the project lifecycle including

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical infrastructure construction, especially high-voltage substations
• Strong communication and team leadership abilities
• Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, and project controls best practices
• Experience with working with electric utilities

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, leadership and supervision of site staff including superintendents, foremen, electricians and technicians
• Manage project schedules with weekly two-week lookahead plans and coordinate activities to meet milestones
• Coordinate subcontractors, vendors and internal crews to ensure on-time completion per contract
• Oversee construction and installation of high-voltage substation equipment including transformers and circuit breakers
• Coordinate with utility representatives and engineering teams to support outages and energization activities
• Ensure site operations comply with utility standards, engineering specs and project quality requirements
• Manage labor productivity and proper utilization of craft labor and subcontractors
• Coordinate equipment and material deliveries for project needs
• Run weekly coordination meetings and manage RFIs to resolve field conflicts
• Support testing, commissioning and energization activities with protection & control teams

KeyFunctions:

• Provideguidance,leadership,mentorship,anddirectsupervisionofsitestaffincludingassistantsuperintendents,foremen,electricians,technicians,laborers,andotherconstructionpersonnelinvolvedinsubstationconstructionandmaintenanceactivities.
• Manageprojectscheduleincludingpreparationofweeklytwo-weeklookaheadschedulesandcoordinationofconstructionactivitiestomaintainprojectmilestones.
• Proactivelyscheduleandcoordinatesubcontractors,vendors,andinternalcrewstoensurecompletionofsubstationprojectsinaccordancewithprojectscheduleandcontractrequirements.
• Developacomprehensiveunderstandingofprojectstrategyandcommitmentsincludingfinancialgoals,scheduling,logistics,phasing,switchingrequirements,commissioningmilestones,andinspections.
• Overseeconstructionandinstallationofhigh-voltagesubstationequipmentincludingtransformers,circuitbreakers,disconnectswitches,bussystems,groundingsystems,relaypanels,protectionsystems,andcontrolwiring.
• Coordinatewithutilityrepresentatives,engineeringteams,andsystemoperationstosupportplannedoutages,switchingprocedures,andenergizationactivities.
• Ensureassignedjobsiteoperationscomplywithutilitystandardsengineeringspecifications,electricalcodes,andprojectqualityrequirements.
• Managelaborforceproductivityandensureproperutilizationofcraftlabor,subcontractors,andspecialtyelectricalcrews.
• Coordinateequipmentandmaterialdeliveriesincludingtransformers,breakers,steelstructures,conduitsystems,relaypanels,andprotectionequipment.
• Demonstrateandmaintaineffectivecommunicationwiththeprojectteamregardingchangesinwork,jobconditions,subcontractorrelations,switchingschedules,anddeviationsinprojectscope.
• Workinpartnershipwithprojectmanagementtomaintainanaccurateandupdatedprojectschedulethatreflectsfieldconditionsandsupportscostandscheduletargets.
• Runweeklycoordinationmeetingsincludingprojectmeetings,subcontractormeetings,andsafetybriefings.
• InitiateandmanagetheRFIprocess,identifyingfieldconflictsandproposingsolutionsrelatedtodesign,constructability,oroperationalrequirements.
• Supportsubstationtesting,commissioning,andenergizationactivitiesincoordinationwithengineering,protection&controlsteams,andutilityoperators.
• Exceedclientexpectationsbyunderstandingutilityclientneeds,systemreliabilitypriorities,andprojectdeliverystandards.
• Promotestrongsubcontractorrelationshipsthroughprofessionalandfairleadershipacrossallprojectparticipants.
• Maintainandreviewpunchlistprocessestoensurecompletionofsubstationequipmentinstallation,testing,andcommissioningitems.
• Manageprojectclose-outincludingdocumentation,as-builtdrawings,commissioningrecords,andwarrantysupport.

DesiredQualifications

• 5–10years’experienceinelectricalinfrastructureconstruction,withsignificantexperienceinhigh-voltagesubstationconstructionorutilitytransmissionprojects.
• Bachelor’sdegreeinelectricalengineering,ConstructionManagement,EngineeringTechnology,orrelatedfield,orcommensurateexperiencepreferred.
• Experienceworkingwithelectricutilities
• Strongknowledgeofhigh-voltagesubstationsystems(69kV–345kV)includingprotection&controls,grounding,andcommissioningprocesses.
• Excellentcommunicationabilitiesincludingwriting,speaking,andactivelistening.
• Knowledgeofconstructionbudgeting,scheduling,andprojectcontrolsbestpractices.
• Effectiveleadershipabilitiesincludingmotivation,goalsetting,crewdevelopment,andconflictresolution.
