Job description

The Acton Boxborough Regional School Committee has engaged the Collins Center for Public Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston to assist the District with its active search for an experienced, qualified candidate for the position of Superintendent of Schools, for a term beginning July 1, 2027.

The Acton-Boxborough Regional School District serves the vibrant and increasingly diverse communities of Acton and Boxborough, Massachusetts, approximately 20 miles west of Boston. ABRSD consistently ranks among the highest-performing public school districts in Massachusetts. The district offers a rich educational experience featuring rigorous academics, nationally recognized music and performing arts programs, award-winning visual arts, competitive athletics, and extensive extracurricular opportunities. Students regularly earn recognition at the regional, state, and national levels, and graduate well prepared for higher education, careers, and civic life.

ABRSD serves approximately 5,000 students in preschool through grade 12, and operates with an annual budget of approximately $122 million. It also employs more than 1,000 staff, including over 500 certified professionals. The district reflects the growing diversity of its communities, with a student population that is approximately 49% White, 32% Asian, 10% Hispanic/Latino, 6% multiracial, and 3% Black/African American. Approximately 8% of students are English Learners, and one-third are identified as high-needs students. While Acton and Boxborough are known for their educational attainment and economic prosperity, the district also serves families with significant economic and educational needs. This blend of affluence and need enriches the school community and reinforces a commitment to both excellence and equitable access. Through its Resource Center, multilingual family engagement, and comprehensive student and family supports, ABRSD ensures every student and family feels welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.

The district is entering an exciting new chapter following the successful completion of its elementary reconfiguration—one of the most significant organizational transformations in its history. The next Superintendent will build on this momentum by advancing innovative teaching and learning initiatives and enhancing student experiences across all grade levels. Supported by a strong, stable, and experienced leadership team with deep institutional knowledge, the Superintendent will inherit an organization committed to continuous improvement and student success.
