The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD, invites motivated students to join a summer team developing advanced sensor systems for national security. You will work with engineers, physicists, mathematicians and computer scientists on signal processing, data fusion, and multi-sensor integration.

Strong collaboration and communication are essential. Eligibility includes pursuing a technical degree and the ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • You meet our minimum qualifications for a position on our team if you are pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in a technical field.
  • You have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and strong analytical skills.
  • You must be able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and later a Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Apply and analyze novel signal and data processing algorithms for detection, tracking and characterization of threats.
  • Develop, apply, and analyze advanced algorithms that fuse active, passive, multi-band and multi-static sensor data.
  • Optimize multi-sensor architectures by defining sensor integration and coordination for high-quality fused targeting information.
  • Apply AI and machine learning in sensing and sensor data analysis.
  • Use data science and statistics on large, multi-dimensional datasets.
  • Analyze and develop sensor signal processing and data fusion algorithms using simulations in a HPC environment.
