Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD is seeking an intern to develop algorithms and evaluate sensor performance for next-generation land, air, and sea-launched interceptor systems. You'll contribute to trade studies and simulations as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Applicants pursuing degrees in math, physics, or engineering should have GPA >=3.0, and be proficient in MATLAB, C++, or Python; eligibility for interim Secret clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in mathematics, physics or engineering.
  • Passion for sensors and signal/image processing algorithms.
  • Proficient in MATLAB, C++, or Python.
  • Knowledge of simulating or analyzing electromagnetic signals, environments, or sensors, signal or image processing, machine learning, tracking or classification.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance by start date and can obtain Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade studies and analyze the performance of sophisticated sensor systems and algorithms.
  • Research concepts and develop simulations and algorithms related to signal propagation, detection and classification for air- and space-borne sensor systems.
  • Work with a team of multi-disciplinary experts to solve difficult air and missile defense problems.
