Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking an intern to help develop algorithms and assess sensor performance for land, air, and sea-launched interceptors. You will work on trade studies, simulations, and algorithms for powerful sensor systems, collaborating with experts to tackle defense challenges.

Ideal candidates are pursuing degrees in math, physics, or engineering, proficient in MATLAB/C++/Python, with a GPA of 3.0+ and eligibility for interim security

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in mathematics, physics, engineering or related fields.
  • Passion for sensors and signal/image processing algorithms.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, C++, or Python.
  • Knowledge of simulating/analyzing EM signals, environments, or sensors, signal/image processing, ML, tracking or classification.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Eligibility for Interim Secret clearance with potential for Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade studies and analyze performance of advanced sensor systems and algorithms.
  • Research concepts and develop simulations related to signal propagation, detection, and target classification.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to solve air and missile defense problems.
