Job summary

The State of South Dakota, Office of the Attorney General, invites applications for an Intern – Office of the Attorney General - Paralegal in Pierre for the Summer session (May - August). This role supports paralegals and assisting attorneys by reviewing pleadings, performing data entry, and managing case files.

Interns must be enrolled as part-time or full-time students and be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
• By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
• All students are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to juniors/seniors, SD residents, and SD institution students.
• Background check required; arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.
• Offers are conditional upon successful drug screening.
• Positions can be filled prior to the closing date.

Responsibilities

• Review pleadings.
• Perform data entry of required information.
• Establish tickler dates.
• Close civil forfeiture files.
• Enter disposition and closure information into database.
• Compile information needed for service procedures.
• Receipt affidavits of service.
• File all documents in appropriate files.
• Work closely with paralegals and assisting attorneys as needed.
