Job summary

UNC Health in Holly Springs seeks nursing students for a 10-week, paid Student Nurse Externship. Students will gain hands-on clinical experience, work with an RN partner, and participate in a modern, expanding 24-bed unit starting September 2026.

The externship emphasizes foundational clinical skills, patient care, and unit socialization within a hospital setting, preparing for licensure and future professional practice.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes to RN.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide care and treatments per plan of care, including vital signs, wound care, and ROM exercises.
• Provide direct personal care for activities of daily living.
• Support area operations: cleaning, stocking, and clerical tasks.
• Reinforce patient education and document understanding.
• Assist with examinations and procedures; procure equipment during emergencies.
• In psychiatry, support orientation, behavior plans, and de-escalation as needed.
