Job summary

UNC Health is offering a 10-week, paid Student Nurse Externship program in Raleigh, NC for rising senior ADN and BSN nursing students. Externs will work alongside experienced RNs in a busy hospital setting, participating in patient care and observing various specialties.

The program provides an immersive, supervised experience within UNC Rex Healthcare, focusing on clinical skill-building, teamwork, and role socialization in a hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Fluent in verbal and written English; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document patient information and report changes to a registered nurse.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provide basic patient care as outlined in the care plan (vital signs, measurements, basic treatments).
• Assist with activities of daily living and indirect care tasks.
• Support patient and family education and reinforce teaching from RNs.
